RISE IN THE CITY
An international sustainable design competition in Lesotho, Africa
September – November 2018
Pushing the boundaries of design: Spatial Compass will be mentoring a student in the upcoming Rise In The City competition for a low cost residential urban house in Lesotho, Africa. Lesotho is a lower/middle-income country completely surrounded by South Africa. For this competition, its capital city, Maseru is being split into 100 virtual blocks. Virtual residency is being offered for 3 entities (student, mentor, sponsor) per block. We've taken up residency as a mentor of block #45 (check out the website).
GET INVOLVED: By getting involved with Rise In The City, either by mentoring a student competition entry, sponsoring one of the city blocks or by entering the competition, you will help give the people of Lesotho the opportunity to better their lives. To potential sponsors: 100% of the proceeds will go towards the construction of additional residential housing for the overcrowded orphanage God's Love Centre as well as to a design-build training program for Lesotho unemployed youth. They are in the process of constructing a residential center and entrepreneurship hub for vulnerable adolescents.
If you would like more information about sponsoring our block (#45) or about other ways to get involved please let us know! We'll be hosting a networking luncheon for our sponsor. Contact: info@spatialcompass.com

ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST
Cocktail Napkin Sketch Contest
September 2018
Licensed architects and design professionals are invited to submit architectural sketches in ink on 5” x 5” white cocktail napkins. 5 sketches are allowed per person so we created a sketch series in honor of our recent trip to Venice, Italy. Here is a glimpse of our napkins which were inspired by our favorite Giovanni Antonio Canal (Canaletto) paintings.
Thanks for reading! We’ll be posting updates to our social media accounts in the months ahead. If you have questions or would like to get involved in any of these adventures please let us know!
This post is dedicated to the strong women in my life. May we always continue to support and encourage each other as we discover our own paths.
